Autumn 2011

In 1981 times were tough and money was tight. Carnamah (pop.1,245) was facing the closure of the AMPOL
Road House, their only public petrol outlet. Twenty four far-sighted local businessmen and farmers got together
and each bought a share in the garage.
The committee chose a born and bred local mechanic and his family as managers
of the newly made Carnamah Community Roadhouse – obviously an excellent choice because 30 years later they are still there.
Congratulations Tom and Angie John for 30 years of service to the Carnamah locals!
If you have a story to share or any photos of the roadhouse please contact the Carnamah Historical Society.
