Carnamah Rocks 30

Autumn 2011 Autumn Cover

In 1981 times were tough and money was tight. Carnamah (pop.1,245) was facing the closure of the AMPOL Road House, their only public petrol outlet. Twenty four far-sighted local businessmen and farmers got together and each bought a share in the garage.

The committee chose a born and bred local mechanic and his family as managers of the newly made Carnamah Community Roadhouse – obviously an excellent choice because 30 years later they are still there.

Congratulations Tom and Angie John for 30 years of service to the Carnamah locals!

If you have a story to share or any photos of the roadhouse please contact the Carnamah Historical Society.
